Sometimes you can fool a defender by trapping the ball past him , tripping over and heading the ball in while breaking your nose

But I wouldn't expect to make a career out of it

Sven, incompetence is callieri's secret weapon, why knock it?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v WBA - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
Callieri got that shot on goal because he had two terrible touches that completely flummoxed the defenders who were expecting COMPETENCE.
That took him wider and gave him less of a target to shoot at
As I said before he isn't sharp enough to make up for the fact that he is LIGHTWEIGHT

Re: ⚽ West Ham v WBA - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
I agree Sir Alf, he had one very memorable shot on goal, which if someone had got onto the push from the goalie would have been a nice goal. Also he really did make a nuisance of himself, but not just taking the ball and attacking he also did not let the west Brom defenders have time to clear the ball, he was onto them looking to win the ball back. I like that committed play high up the field from strickers it makes it harder to counter and helped us pile loads of pressure on.

However, as we all say, he does not look good enough. But not the dog turd many want to make him.

I still think Fletcher just barged into Randolph at the corner. Didn't go for the ball at all, just threw himself into him.
And the throw went out about 10 yds inside our half. The throw was taken from level with the edge of the penalty area after he stole about 20yds
And this from refs that make free kicks be retaken when they are a yard forward from the correct spot about 80 yds from goal

Re: ⚽ West Ham v WBA - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
Calleri found some gaps and made some space for himself a couple of times but admittedly could not do much with it. He was too lightweight and was bouncing off the WB CBs but made a nuisance of himself. More than Fletcher has in his appearances.

Pullis was worried enough by his introduction to bring Evans on for a midfielder but Calleri would have to improve by 300% to be a regular. IMO

I spoke to Saints centre back last week and he said Calleri was hard to mark when he come on.

Sorry Alf, but Calleri did not "cause problems". He never has and he never will.

Sir Alf...

Pace...Mobility...Strike Force...

And ...a Top Keeper...LB. RB...quality and backups...

Those are our deficiencies...and have been for some time...

We've done well...or Bilic has done well to get us where we-are today...

Oscar Wilde said "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".

Of course, there are people to whom that emphatically doesn't apply.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v WBA - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
Disappointing end but 2nd half we moved the ball well and for all Calleri's limitations he caused problems just by being a second striker.

All that said, the same limitations as a team are still evident and will become obvious again when we play Chelsea at home. We do not have the movement and work rate in midfield as a collective unit at times. Noble cannot continue as first choice in midfield if we want to improve. We have to get another mobile striker. We have to get squad depth at right and left back.

We are a mid table outfit that struggles against pace and pressing. Our passing throughout the team is not sharp enough.

All that said, I could not fault the effort or desire of any of our players on the day. The ref did not give us anything, not one marginal or debatable decision went our way and 2 or 3 clearly went against us.

Best players on the day were once again Reid and Obiang but with the addition of Lanzini yesterday. Ferghouli had a good second half and the Fonte was assured if unspectacular.

We need quality not quantity in the summer. Will Sullivan pay over the odds to get it?

Gavros...agree...

Didn't Fletcher impede/pudh/ pull Randolph to the ground for their second ...???

there's a couple more instances of poor officiating on watching back. When Antonio found himself in front of goal he was taken out by foster who by the end of it had his hand around Antonio's neck. That wasnt mentioned anywhere that i saw.

also the throw that led to the corner at the end was taken about ten yards in front of where it went off the pitch. Again, fuck all was done about it.

well done to the 2 miserable old cunts (gotta be from this site) who got a group of young lads escorted out of the ground - they dared to have a laugh and keep shouting 'FLETCHER', 'COLLINS'...etc at the players as they were warming up - the players and everyone else found it funny but obviously these 2 cunts wanted to give it charlie large and get fellow west ham fans (kids) thrown out. nice works chaps.

oh and lanzini is class.

Fletcher looks like he could learn how to play the position, Calleri doesn't seem to have a basis to build on

It's annoying as hell that here we are a couple of weeks after the transfer playing a wide man up front as we didn't have a front line striker.

I suppose there's a limit to have many injured ones you can carry.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v WBA - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
was a bit unhappy that slav changed the formation when we got back to 1-1. we had been playing 3-5-2 with antonio up front with calleri and snodgrass left. we scored, he put antonio left and snodgrass tucked in, leaving calleri alone up front. needed to carry on the same and think we might have scored more than one more.

Was a great game to be fair, hence the atmosphere in the ground.
